The story of the remarkable LGBTQ community
Let us talk about the remarkable LGBTQ community.
LGBTQ
Some letters that confuse people not only in India but all over the world. Confuse them to such an extent that people associated with these five letters are denied rights and even face violence.
The question arises why is this case?
We could blame multiple factors like orthodox mindset and religious fundamentalism but the truth remains that it is due to the lack of awareness.
So what is the remarkable LGBTQ community? It is an acronym for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer. This is a community of people whose sexuality and choice of sexual partners has been a topic for derision for quite some time now. They are denied marriage rights in many countries and some countries dole out death penalties for their “affliction”. Many people to this day believe the way they were born to be a mental disease or a phase of life.
It is sad that in a world where humanity is trying so hard to move forward, humans are denied rights and are mistreated for who they are. What many people today are unable to grasp is the fact that these people are humans no different from those involved in heterosexual relations.
Religious and political leaders all over the world are worried that this community would somehow destroy the “the institution of marriage” and that they are against “how god planned things to be”. What they forget is that God is the one who created these people as well and loves them equally.
People out there are being forced to like pink when they can shine bright like a rainbow and glow up the world. A rainbow looks amazingly perfect in its entirety, doesn’t it?
The remarkable LGBTQ community, in the same fashion, is performing wonders not in a different but an absolutely normal way. Inculcating the want for enhancing social progress and equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and transsexual people has become a highly overwhelming movement.
While the remarkable LGBTQ community is doing their job of creating awareness and demanding equal rights and working towards social acceptance we need to ask ourselves one question: who declared us superior enough to judge people for how they look, who they love and who they are when we can still witness the abundant cases of marital rape and domestic violence amongst us? Sexual orientation and gender identity, the two core aspects of someone’s life should never be subject to unjust laws, cruel treatment, and denial of recognition
